With a time of 10.36s, Danish qualified for the final as the eighth fastest.

Less than a year into his debut, Malaysian sprint sensation Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee is gearing up for another international 100m final, this time at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon.

The 19-year-old stormed to a second-place finish in his semi-final on Wednesday (5 August), clocking a time of 10.36s to qualify for the final as the eighth-fastest.

A two-time national champion already, Danish is driven by encouragement from his parents, who help coach the young hopeful both technically and mentally.

“I always listen to advice from both my parents as they are also coaches,” he told NST in a previous interview . “They always remind me to focus on my own performance and do the absolute best that I can.”

Competing at this event for the first time in his career, Danish is aiming to close in on his personal best of 10.18s across 100m ahead of Thursday’s (6 August) showdown.

Speaking to reporters after booking his spot in the final, the debutant will “use this platform to showcase the best version” of himself.

Competing here, and at other upcoming junior events, will bode the Malaysian well just over a year out from the 2027 Southeast Asian Games. He won two bronze medals in his first appearance there last December, in both the 100m and 200m.

While attention remains firmly on the task at hand, these events provide ample opportunity to improve, he concludes : “I am not going to start any targets just yet – I will try my best to improve myself and give it everything I have when I compete.”
