Tech execs and circularity experts meet in London at DICE Network+ Transformation Pathways

06.08.2026, 12:09 Uhr London - Meta and Google executives, Britain’s top sustainability experts, and others met recently at the Digital Innovation and Circular Economy, or DICE, Network+ Transformation Pathways event at the Science Museum in London. Attendees discussed how reusing hardware can cut costs by 40 percent.

( CONNECT ) Too many companies are sending technology to landfills rather than reusing hardware or recycling critical metals, said 75 executives, researchers, and policymakers who attended the DICE Network+ Transformation Pathways Event at the Science Museum in London. The July 1 event was part of a three-year program that includes nine British universities with funding from Britain’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council , said a July 10 statement .

“Opening up robust secondary markets and extending the life of hardware just makes good sense for the planet, and it makes good business sense too,” said Meta Senior Staff Systems Engineer Lisa Rivalin, a keynote speaker.

Digital sustainability expert Lydia Tabbron, who works in the British government’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs , said mandating the use of remanufactured devices had saved 40 percent in costs, highlighting how public procurement rules can drive circularity. Others discussed how recycling and reusing hardware creates opportunities for domestic mining of lithium and other critical minerals.

University of Exeter Professor of Circular Innovation Fiona Charnley and Co-Director of the Exeter Centre for the Circular Economy said the event demonstrated how leaders know how to cultivate circularity but must learn how to scale their solutions.

“It was inspiring to hear how many of the technological solutions are already in our grasp, and that it seems the bottleneck is not innovation – it is adoption,” said Charnley. “Our challenge going forward is to break through that risk aversion by together building the trust, data standards and partnerships required to turn these transformation pathways into reality.” ce
