Peru marked one year to go until the Lima 2027 Pan American Games by unveiling the official countdown clock, with U.S. gymnastics superstar Biles leading the celebrations.
With one year to go until the 2027 Pan American Games , hosts Peru unveiled the official Lima 2027 countdown clock in a vibrant celebration at the historic Plaza Mayor.
The ceremony was led by Simone Biles , Team USA’s most decorated artistic gymnast , and Karen Palomeque , Colombian two-time gold medallist at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games , as the city came alive with music and cultural celebrations.
As the global ambassador for Lima 2027, Biles also visited Cusco and the Sacred Valley, experiencing some of Peru’s most iconic cultural and historical landmarks, before taking centre stage at the celebrations in the capital.
“It’s beautiful,” said Biles. “I’m delighted by how beautiful this country is; its culture, its colours, and the kindness of its people.”
Lima 2027 will bring together more than 7,000 athletes from across the Americas for 16 days of competition in 38 sports .
The Games will play a key role on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games , with numerous events serving as qualification opportunities for LA.
