Alexandra Eala and Venus Williams fall in women's doubles first round at Canadian Open

The wildcard duo go down in straight sets to Kato Miyu and Liudmila Samsonova in Toronto.

Alexandra Eala and Venus Williams were knocked out in the first round of the women’s doubles at the 2026 Canadian Open in Toronto on Thursday (6 August).

Tennis 's star wildcard pair were bounced by Kato Miyu and Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-3 in 76 minutes. Eala and Williams had five doubles faults and conceded six of 11 break points.

Eala and Williams were teaming up for the first time since reaching the Bad Homburg quarter-finals in June.

The two had originally been scheduled to partner each other at the Mubadala DC Open last week, but Eala chose to focus on singles, which paid off as she claimed her first WTA title.

Eala is also still in the singles at the Canadian Open, beating Alycia Parks on Wednesday (5 August) to reach the third round.
