Jakob Ingebrigtsen to race 1500m at Weltklasse Zürich, Letzigrund Stadium, Zürich; first Diamond League race in nearly two years

Athletics: Jakob Ingebrigtsen to make Diamond League return at Weltklasse Zürich 2026 against Cole Hocker and Isaac Nader

The double Olympic gold medallist will line up at a sold-out Letzigrund Stadium on 27 August for his first Diamond League race in nearly two years, in a field that also features Yared Nuguse and Phanuel Koech.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen will contest the 1500 metres at the Diamond League Zürich on Thursday 27 August, organisers confirmed on Friday (7 August), setting up a clash with Olympic champion Cole Hocker and world champion Isaac Nader at the sold-out Letzigrund Stadium.

It will be the Norwegian’s first Diamond League appearance since he won the 1500m at the 2024 series final in Brussels in September that year. Ingebrigtsen underwent surgery on an Achilles tendon injury in February and hasn’t raced in 2026, with the 25-year-old set to open his season at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, which run from 10 to 16 August.

Ingebrigtsen won 1500m gold at Tokyo 2020 and took the 5000m title at Paris 2024 , where Hocker claimed the 1500m in an Olympic record of 3:27.65. Nader, meanwhile, arrives in Zürich as the reigning world champion after becoming the first Portuguese man to win a global 1500m title in Tokyo last September, edging Great Britain’s Jake Wightman by 0.02 seconds.

The field also includes Yared Nuguse , who took 1500m bronze in Paris, and Kenya’s Phanuel Koech .

Zürich is the penultimate stop of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, which concludes with the final in Brussels on 4 and 5 September.
