BWF Korea Masters 2026: Yoo Taebin breaks into world top 50 by reaching final on home soil

Yoo’s run to the Super 300 final has guaranteed his debut in the world’s top 50 badminton players when the rankings are updated next week.

There will be home representation on finals day at the 2026 Korea Masters, thanks to the Republic of Korea’s Yoo Taebin .

The 22-year-old pulled off a huge upset against top men’s singles seed Okimoto Yudai of Japan, with a 21-16, 21-18 victory in the semi-finals on Saturday (8 August).

Yoo’s run to the Super 300 final has guaranteed his debut in the world’s top 50 men's badminton players when the rankings are updated next week. He has also reached consecutive finals at this level, following a runner-up finish at last week’s Taipei Open.

Unseeded Yoo will contest the men’s singles final on Sunday against People's Republic of China's Zhu Xuanchen , who overcame Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei in three games: 21-8, 16-21, 21-12, in 58 minutes. This will be world No. 68 Zhu’s first BWF final since the 2024 Guwahati Masters, a Super 100 tournament.

The women’s singles final will see a maiden appearance in a championship match for Ashmita Chaliha . She came through an all-Indian semi-final against Rakshitha Ramraj , as the world number 50 triumphed 21-13, 16-21, 21-13.

Chaliha awaits Han Qianxi , the fourth seed from the People’s Republic of China, in the final. Han recently claimed the German Open title and beat the top seed, Akechi Hina , in a deciding game 22-20, 18-21, 21-14 to reach the final.
