RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo set for another spell on the sidelines

RB Leipzig attacker Assan Ouédraogo will miss several weeks of the new 2026

27 Bundesliga campaign after suffering an injury to his right shoulder at the club's pre-season training camp.

The 20-year-old Germany international sustained the injury during a training session on Saturday. Following comprehensive medical examinations and assessment of the findings, it was decided that Ouédraogo would undergo conservative treatment, meaning he will be sidelined for the time being.

Ouédraogo most recently made headlines in the build-up to the World Cup when he was called up as a replacement for the injured Lennart Karl , although he did not make an appearance during the tournament.

Despite his young age, the Leipzig attacker already has a relatively lengthy injury history and also missed large parts of the 2024

25 season. However, Ouédraogo has consistently shown his resilience, returning stronger each time.

“He’s a very humble young man who has no airs and has already been through some difficult periods, which I wouldn’t wish on anyone," said former Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann said of the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner.

"But that doesn’t necessarily have to be a negative for a career if you have to fight your way back from difficult moments.”

It is not yet known when Ouédraogo will be able to return to team training.
