The 2025 finalist will skip the 2026 ATP Masters 1000 tournament due to a knee injury, with the US Open less than three weeks away.

Jannik Sinner will miss consecutive ATP Masters 1000 tournaments as he announced his withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open 2026 .

The world No. 1 had won all five Masters titles, the men’s tennis level below the Grand Slams, in the first half of the season before defending his Wimbledon title. But after skipping the Canadian Open , he will also miss Cincinnati, where he reached the final last year.

“After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati," Sinner said in a statement on Sunday (9 August).

“My right knee has been bothering me and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I’m not ready to compete yet.

“I’m very disappointed not to be able to play in Cincinnati and wish Bob [Moran] and his whole team a great and successful event. I can’t wait to be back next year and I’m now focusing on getting ready for the US Open.”

The 24-year-old has not played since Wimbledon and will go into the US Open , taking place from 30 August to 13 September, without playing either hard-court Masters 1000 tournament in the North American hard-court swing.

Carlos Alcaraz is in a similar same posititon. The world No. 2’s recovery from a wrist injury sustained in April has kept him out of action ever since, and the Spaniard was not ready to compete in either Montreal or Cincinnati.

The only tournament before the US Open is the Winston-Salem Open, an ATP 250 event, which neither Sinner nor Alcaraz are scheduled to play in, but could request a wildcard.

While the new duopoly of men’s tennis will not be present in Ohio, Olympic champion Novak Djokovic is competing. He has only played two of the five Masters 1000 tournaments this season and will head to the U.S. as one of the top three seeds.

The Cincinnati Open takes place from 13-23 August, concluding a week before the US Open main draw and the day before the major’s mixed doubles championships.
