2026 European Athletics Championships women's 800m: Full schedule and how to watch Keely Hodgkinson and Audrey Werro live

The women's 800m is one of the most highly-anticipated events of the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Audrey Werro and Keely Hodgkinson will renew a rivalry that has quickly become one of the most fascinating in the world of athletics .

Hodgkinson has been the dominant 800m force in recent years, winning Olympic gold and two European outdoor titles. But if she is to win a third continental gold medal, she will need to overcome the challenge of Switzerland's Werro, who is enjoying one of the most impressive 800m seasons in history.

At June's Stockholm Diamond League, Werro stunned the world with a breathtaking 1:53.98 , becoming the third-fastest woman in history. Hodgkinson ran a lifetime best of 1:54.33 , only to find herself beaten into second.

Weeks later, Werro went even faster, setting a new personal best of 1:53.80 at the Paris Diamond League .

With two-time 400m hurdles world champion Femke Broeders-Bol switching to the 800m this season, another dimension has been added ahead of the most anticipated events of Birmingham 2026.

The five-time European outdoor champion will line up against Hodgkinson and Werro, having posted a time of 1:55.60 at this year's Paris Diamond League.
