World Athletics U20 Championships 2026: Shanoya Douglas anchors Jamaica to gold in the women’s 4x100m relay final

A perfectly executed final leg from the 18-year-old rising star saw Jamaica stand on the top step of the podium in a time of 42.89 seconds.

Jamaica wore green and gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships on Sunday (9 August), powering to the world title in a time of 42.89 seconds at Hayward Field.

The squad of Sashana Johnson , Theianna-Lee Terrelonge , Natrece East and Shanoya Douglas were undeniably the fastest in Eugene, crossing the finish line with no one else in sight.

“It meant a lot for us,” affirmed Douglas. “We wanted the gold to go home. We wanted it to be four-in-a-row where Jamaica had gotten gold in this championship.

“We lost the gold in the 100m, but we are still grateful for the performance that we had in this championship,” added the 100m and 200m runner-up. “This gold is really important to us.”

Switzerland’s squad, composed of Mara Schwitter , Xenia Buri , Milla Tonazzi and Joy Umegbolu , were next fastest in a time 43.36, followed by Belgian squad of Lore Foesters , Lauren Petroci-Coninx , Martha Geerardyn and Ilona Dhaenens in 43.91.

“We worked really hard for this race,” said Switzerland’s Buri. “We are super happy to win this medal. This team is great. I love this race. I love this experience.”

Umegbolu, who ran the anchor leg for the Swiss, echoed her teammates comments.

“It was great crossing the finish line. I really hoped for it,” she explained. “But now that we made it, it is just a wonderful feeling. I knew we could do it and now it is relief.”

Belgian anchor Dhaenens kept it simple on the final leg: “I just ran as fast as I can. I felt I was getting closer, so I just kept going.”

Teammate Geerardy had faith in her ability to bring the bronze.

“I know what she is capable of and she did it. I still can not believe it.”
