Sika Enhances Sustainability with Wastewater Reuse

Sika Vietnam has operated a wastewater treatment plant since 2025 as part of its commitment to sustainable manufacturing. To further enhance water conservation at the Dong Nai site, the site has installed an additional filtration system that enables treated wastewater to be reused for cleaning and gardening, with plans to explore its future use in production processes where feasible.

Closing the Water Loop: Sika Vietnam Advances Water Reuse

As part of its commitment to sustainable operations, Sika Vietnam is transforming treated wastewater at the Dong Nai plat into a valuable resource. Recognizing the opportunity to reduce freshwater consumption and wastewater-related costs, the site launched a water reuse project that supports both environmental stewardship and operational efficiency. In Vietnam, companies pay not only for municipal water supply but also wastewater charges based on water consumption.

To reduce dependence on city water and promote circular water management, Sika identified an opportunity to recover and reuse treated effluent water for internal applications.The project utilizes advanced ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO) technologies to treat wastewater from the site’s treatment plant. Wastewater containing elevated levels of COD, suspended solids, and nitrogen passes through a multi-stage treatment process, including sand filtration, membrane filtration, ultrafiltration, and reverse osmosis. The resulting water meets the quality requirements for internal reuse.

A Smarter Approach to Water: Recycle, Reuse, Reduce

The system currently supplies treated water for IBC cleaning and landscaping activities. Looking ahead, the team in Dong Nai plans to validate the use of recycled water in production processes, further enhancing water circularity across the site.
