Amy Hunt clocked fastest 100m semi-final in Birmingham; 10.99 sec to lead final

2026 European Athletics Championships: Asher-Smith, Swoboda and Dosso set for European 100m rematch in Birmingham as Amy Hunt shows she’s the one to beat

Hunt clocked the fastest time in the semi-finals, while Swoboda, Asher-Smith and Dosso also looked in great form ahead of Monday’s (10 August) final.

The entire podium from the women’s 100m at the 2024 European Athletics Championships will line up again for another shot at gold in Birmingham.

Defending champion Dina Asher-Smith , Poland’s Ewa Swoboda and Italy’s Zaynab Dosso all booked their places in Monday evening’s (10 August) final at Alexander Stadium, setting up a repeat of the podium from two years ago.

Asher-Smith had to wait until all three semi-finals were completed before her place in the final was confirmed, after the Briton finished third in her semi-final in a season’s best 11.10 seconds.

The race was won by compatriot Amy Hunt , who produced a brilliant finish to come from behind and clock 10.99. It was Hunt’s third sub-11-second run of the season and a timely statement ahead of the final.

Luxembourg’s Patrizia van der Weken finished second in 11.08 to secure her place in the final, while Switzerland’s Salomé Kora also advanced after finishing fourth in 11.12.

The second semi-final saw Switzerland’s Géraldine di Tizio-Frey take victory in 11.02, with world indoor champion Dosso finishing second in 11.11s to book her place in the final.

Dosso claimed bronze in Rome in 2024 and will now look to complete the set by upgrading to gold in Birmingham.

In the third semi-final, Ewa Swoboda underlined her medal credentials by winning in 11.02. The Polish sprinter took silver behind Asher-Smith in Rome and will be looking to go one better this time.

Belgium’s Delphine Nkansa , the 2023 European U23 champion, completed the eight-woman final line-up.

With all three medallists from Rome back in the mix, and Hunt arriving in form, the women’s 100m final promises another fascinating battle for glory.

The final is scheduled for 21:50 local time on Monday 10 August .
