European Aquatics Championships 2026: Great Britain win 4x200m relay at European Aquatics Championships in Paris

Great Britain’s men’s team finished in 7:01.52, a championship record, to win the bi-annual event in the French capital. Hosts France took silver, with Germany finishing third.

Great Britain’s James Guy , Jack McMillan , Matthew Richards and Duncan Scott finished in 7:01.52 to take first place in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris, France on Monday (10th August).

The two-time reigning Olympic champion’s time established a new championship record.

Guy set the tone, swimming his split in 1:44.07, with Scott (1:45.39), Richards (1:45.44) and McMillan (1:46.62) following.

Teammates Thomas Dean , Tyler Melbourne-Smith and Gabriel Shepherd competed in the morning qualifiers, along with McMillan, and paced their heat with a 7:05.07.

France finished in 7:02.23 to earn silver, while Germany took bronze with a time of 7:02.28.

This is the first time Great Britain has won gold in this event at the bi-annual competition since 2018, when the team enjoyed victory in Glasgow, Scotland.

Dean and Guy were both members of that team, as well as Calum Jarvis, Duncan Scott, Stephen Milne and Cameron Kurle.

Great Britain swept the overall event, as the women also finished their 4x200m freestyle relay final in a championship record time (7:45.93) to win gold.
