Four modern turbines produce enough electricity to power around 20,000 households annually

Surrounding local authorities benefit from revenue of up to 130,000 euros a year

RWE has commissioned a new onshore wind farm with a total installed capacity of 22.8 megawatts (MW) in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The four turbines near the municipality of Papenhagen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, generate enough electricity to supply approximately 20,000 households annually. Construction of the 5.7 MW turbines in this windy coastal region began in April last year. Another wind turbine, built by RWE nearby for a project partner, has also been successfully commissioned and is now generating electricity.

Sopna Sury, CEO RWE Renewables Europe & Australia: “The area around Papenhagen offers excellent wind conditions, which is ideal for this wind farm. I am delighted that it has been successfully commissioned and would like to thank our project partners for their excellent work. To me, it is particularly important that the local communities benefit as well. We give the surrounding municipalities 0.2 cents for every kilowatt-hour generated. This amounts to up to 130,000 euros per year.”

Green Growth in Our Home Market

Renewable energies are the cornerstone of a secure energy supply in the face of rising electricity demand. Electricity generation from onshore wind farms is particularly cost-effective and has a proven track record. RWE operates onshore wind farms in Germany with a capacity of 791 MW and is continuously expanding them. The company is present throughout Germany, ensuring a strong position in the regionally focused wind and solar sectors. To further drive forward the expansion of renewable energy, the company is seeking suitable sites across Germany for wind, solar and battery projects.
