The contract awarded by the Boston-based real estate investment trust BXP encompasses the complete overhaul of the elevator systems as well as the installation of new controllers and electronic infrastructure.

The largest listed developer, owner and administrator of top class office real estate in the USA is entrusting the elevator manufacturer from Ebikon in the Swiss canton of Lucerne with the modernization of 31 elevators in the General Motors Building . BXP is the owner of the 50-story skyscraper on Fifth Avenue in New York, which is located close to the entrance to Central Park. Completed in 1968, the building occupies a full city block.

According to the information, the project encompasses the complete overhaul of the elevator systems, including the original machinery and core mechanical components, as well as the installation of new controllers and electronic infrastructure. Among other aspects, this will comprise Schindler PORT, which is the company’s advanced destination dispatch system that ensures minimal waiting times and optimal passenger comfort. Meanwhile, building security is also to be enhanced by restricting access to specific floors.
