Conference on Passive Low Energy Architecture © PLEA 2026 The 38 th edition of the international conference on Passive Low Energy Architecture (PLEA) took place from July 27 to 31 in San José, Costa Rica. On this occasion, the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) presented a conference paper exploring the integration of climate adaptation and sustainability criteria into the renovation process of housing clusters. PLEA is an organization engaged in a worldwide discourse on sustainable architecture and urban design through international conferences, workshops, and publications. It has a membership of several thousand professionals, academics, and students from over 40 countries. PLEA is a renowned, highly regarded international annual conference to discuss and promote the development of bioclimatic design and the application of natural and innovation techniques for sustainable architecture and design. Since 1982, PLEA has organized conferences and events across the globe. The annual conference of PLEA is highly regarded, attracting academics and practicing architects in equal numbers. Past conferences have taken place in the United States, Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia. For the first time since the creation of PLEA, the 38 th edition of the conference took place in San José, Costa Rica. With the theme “Common sense architecture. Harnessing local wisdom for sustainable futures” and four tracks – Ecological and environmental responsibility, Bioclimatic design and innovative techniques, Interdisciplinary collaboration and problem solving, Research in building and urban science – the conference explored the most actual and urgent topics related to the role of the built environment in the climate change mitigation and adaptation. During this international conference, the LAST presented an article on the preliminary results of the “Post-carbon Habitability” research project, dedicated to renovation strategies for residential clusters from the second half of the 20th century in the context of the ecological transition and climate adaptation .
