Empowerment beneficiaries from Colombia and Venezuela medal at South American Tour opener – FIVB Colombia’s Yeferson De La Hoz & Juan Carlos Noriega and Venezuela’s Darlin Rodriguez & Valeria Moreno, both benefitting from FIVB Volleyball Empowerment support for their federations, earned their spots on the podiums at the 2026-2027 CSV Beach Volleyball South American Tour opening stop in Bogota last week. Home favorites Yeferson & Noriega claimed the men’s silver and lined up between winners Juan Amieva & Maciel Bueno of Argentina and bronze medalists Mateus Rodrigues (Manaus) & Henrique Camboim of Brazil. In the women’s tournament, Rodriguez & Valeria took bronze, while Brazil’s Vitoria Rodrigues & Hegeile Almeida beat Argentina’s Agostina Ghigliazza & Morena Marisa Abdala in the final. Colombia’s beach volleyball department has received USD 126,000 in FIVB Volleyball Empowerment coach support for their national duos, trained by Puerto Rican coach Juan Cartagena. On the way to the final in Bogota, Colombia’s Yeferson & Noriega did not drop a single set in four matches played. In the semifinals, they mastered a 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) shutout of Brazil’s Gabriel Dos Reis Santiago & Johann Ferdinand Dohmann to secure their place among the top two in the final standings. Argentina’s Amieva & Bueno, who lost one of their pool matches to Gabriel & Johann, did not lose another set and cruised all the way to the top of the podium. In the semis, they beat Brazil’s Henrique & Manaus by 2-0 (21-14, 21-15), and in the gold medal showdown, they registered the exact same result against Yeferson & Noriega. In an all-Brazilian third-place match, Henrique & Manaus battled it out for a 2-1 (22-20, 16-21, 15-12) victory over Gabriel & Johann to earn bronze. The Venezuelan Volleyball Federation has been allocated a total of USD 72,500 in FIVB Volleyball Empowerment coach support, a large portion of which was tagged to their national teams in beach volleyball, working under Cuban coach Eugenio Ortiz Tellez. Venezuela’s Rodriguez & Valeria lost two of their six games in Bogota, both to bracket leaders and champions-to-be Vitoria & Hegeile of Brazil. The rest – they swept in straight sets, including the 2-0 (21-14, 21-18) bronze medal match against Paraguay’s Laura Ovelar & Fiorella Nunez. Vitoria & Hegeile cruised through the tournament on a run of five straight-set victories, including a 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) sweep of their semifinal against Rodriguez & Valeria and a 2-0 (21-13, 21-12) sweep of the final against Argentina’s Ghigliazza & Abdala. In their semifinal, the Argentinean duo produced a 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) shutout of Laura & Fio. 16 men’s and 16 women’s duos representing 10 South American countries – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela – took part in the Bogota event. The next South American Tour stop will take place in Cayenne, French Guiana from November 11 to 15.
