Day four of Birmingham 2026 kicked off with the 200m men’s qualifying rounds for Thursday (13 August) evening’s semi-finals.
This year’s 200m Italian champion Filippo Dezza and two-time Olympian Joshua Hartmann clocked the fastest times in the men’s 200m first round qualifying on day four of the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
Running a 20.60 and 20.61 respectively, they were followed by nine-time Latvian champion Oskars Grava in third spot.
“It felt like a pretty heavy race and it will be hard to recover but I’ll be ready for the semi-finals,” Grava said. “The track feels fast, the stadium feels great and my goal is to run a national record in the semis. I am hoping for a tailwind in the final so I can fight to make the final.”
Kenny Emi Tijani-Ajayi of Norway recorded a 20.70 personal best to qualify in his debut European Championships.
British 19-year-old Ebuka Nwokeji will join compatriot Zharnel Hughes , who received a bye, for the semi-finals on home soil on Thursday evening, taking place at 20:05 local time.
