An Seyong and Loh Kean Yew will compete at the 17-23 August tournament in New Delhi.
Badminton ’s biggest prize will be on the line in New Delhi, where the 30th edition of the BWF World Championships will be underway 17-23 August.
India is hosting the world championships for the first time since 2009 as 64 women and men each, along with 48 pairs in the three doubles, fight for top honours over the seven days at Indira Gandhi Arena.
An Seyoung of the Republic of Korea and Shi Yuqi of the People’s Republic of China are the No. 1 seeds in the women’s and men’s singles, respectively.
Five former champions are among the 16 women’s seeds - An, reigning and three-time winner Yamaguchi Akane of Japan who is the second seed, Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, PV Sindhu and Yamaguchi’s compatriot Okuhara Nozomi .
The holder Shi, 2023 winner Kunlavut Vitidsarn and 2021 champion Loh Kean Yew feature on the men’s side.
The most intriguing first-round singles match-up could be Shi and India’s rising hope Ayush Shetty . Shi has one title this season, and his lead atop the men’s rankings over No. 2 Vitidsarn is slowly but surely shrinking.
No prize money is awarded at worlds, although it offers the most ranking points of any competition along with the Olympic Games of 14,500.
