‘The move of my life’: Spanish Olympic skateboarder Danny León times trick with total solar eclipse

Europe’s first total solar eclipse in 27 years brought millions across the continent out of their homes to witness a spectacular celestial event. And Olympic skateboarder Danny León had a unique idea to mark the moment.

As parts of Europe plunged into darkness on Wednesday (12 August), millions across the continent looked to the skies to witness a total solar eclipse.

While many people used special eclipse glasses to catch a glimpse, someone had a more creative, unique idea to mark the spectacular celestial event.

In rural Spain, Paris 2024 and Tokyo 2020 skateboarder Danny León , performed a mid-air jump during the solar eclipse, perfectly synchronising his effort with the moon passing in front of the sun.

“THE TRICK OF MY LIFE: ECLIPSE MODE! ☀️🌑” the Spaniard wrote on Instagram, sharing a video of the moment, which has gained more than 7 million likes, and over half a million reposts.

Gliding off a ramp perfectly placed against the backdrop of the solar eclipse, León’s effort was captured by a team of camera crew who filmed him from afar.

The slow-mo video, stitched with Michael Jackson’s famous ‘Earth Song’, featured León mid-air against the stunning backdrop of Europe’s first total solar eclipse in 27 years, with people cheering him on for his incredible effort.
