Paul Curnow Appointed Chairman of The Glass Recycling Company
Ardagh Glass Packaging-Africa (AGP-A) is pleased to announce that its CEO, Paul Curnow, has been appointed as the new Chairman of The Glass Recycling Company (TGRC), South Africa’s leading glass recycling organisation.
As a founding member of TGRC, AGP-A’s partnership with the organisation has been instrumental in promoting a circular economy alongside our industry partners and local communities. Paul’s appointment, which follows his succession of Mike Arnold as both CEO of AGP-A and now Chairman of TGRC, will strengthen this collaboration.
This leadership role directly supports Ardagh’s global Clearly Ardagh transformation initiative by advancing its goals of reducing waste and optimising resource use.
Increasing the use of recycled glass (cullet) is vital to this mission. In 2023, AGP-A achieved a 49% recycled content rate, and Paul’s leadership at TGRC will be crucial in building on this progress and driving industry-wide collaboration.
In his new capacity, Paul will also serve on the board of the Paper and Packaging Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) Alliance, uniting efforts to transform South Africa’s recycling landscape.
“Taking responsibility for our impact on the environment and ensuring our glass returns for re-use as a new bottle has always been important to me personally and, of course, for our business commercially. Having partnered with the TGRC over the years in my role to grow recycling rates in South Africa, I am both proud and excited to now move on and play a broader industry role and serve as its Chairman,” said Paul Curnow, CEO Ardagh Glass Packaging-Africa. Leveraging the inherent benefit of the glass process which already allows bottle to bottle recycling in a very localised manner reusing the same feedstock over and over again is vital for both glass and our society in creating a more sustainable future. I am passionate about working with our customers and industry partners to increase glass recovery rates, promote
inspire greater consumer awareness, and unlock the full potential of a circular economy.”
