Eisleben. Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister President Sven Schulze today presented the Mansfeld-Südharz district with three grant awards totaling approximately 23 million euros. With funding from the federal and state “Investment Act for Coal-Mining Regions,” a modern MakerLab is being established in Lutherstadt Eisleben—an open development center featuring a coworking space and a design thinking lab. Here, entrepreneurs, companies, researchers, and creative minds will find a space to collaborate on developing new ideas, advancing innovations, and testing future technologies.

Minister President Sven Schulze: “Just under 23 million euros is an investment in the future of the people here in the region. It’s important to me that structural change creates real opportunities. That’s exactly what this project stands for. Here, new ideas, modern jobs, and prospects for the next generation are taking shape. This is how we’re making the region stronger step by step and ensuring that Saxony-Anhalt remains a state with good opportunities for living and working in the future.”

District Administrator André Schröder: “With today’s handover of the final grant notifications, the planned measures at the MakerLab Lutherstadt Eisleben can now be implemented. This will breathe new life into the former hall of the Mansfeld-Südharz Vocational Schools. An open hub for innovation—dedicated to research and development, education, and socially engaged projects—is taking shape. A true collaborative effort!”

Background: With the MakerLab, a modern development center for innovation, collaboration, and new ideas is being created in Lutherstadt Eisleben. To this end, the existing building is being extensively modernized and renovated to meet the new requirements. Research and workspaces covering approximately 2,000 square meters are being created, featuring workshops, technical rooms, experimentation areas, and modern office and storage spaces. The project focuses on digitalization, telehealth, and digital preventive healthcare. Great importance is placed on environmental and social sustainability in both the planning and implementation phases.
