Former World No. 1 Świątek defeated second seed Rybakina in straight sets to win the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto.

Poland's six-time tennis major champion Iga Świątek lifted her first title of 2026 after beating World No. 2 Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in Canadian Open final in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday (13 August).

Świątek converted both break point opportunities and saved as many, making a strong start in the first set against Rybakina, the reigning Australian Open champion.

In the second set, the Polish World No. 8 did not face any break points from her Kazakh opponent and converted two out of the three chances she had, clinching victory in an hour and 15 minutes.

"I want to dedicate this title to everyone who is dealing with unfair judgement and hate," Świątek, the Paris 2024 women's singles bronze medallist, said after the match.

"Just keep pushing, keep growing, keep focusing on yourself because you know what's best for you.

"And always remember what's ahead and what might be possible."

The title triumph in Toronto marked Świątek's 12th WTA 1000 crown, moving her past Aryna Sabalenka (11) for the second-most since the format debuted in 2009.

The former World No. 1 now trails only Serena Williams , who has 13 such titles.

With Thursday's victory, Świątek leads Tokyo 2020 Olympian Rybakina 7-6 in their head-to-head record.

"You're such a great competitor, and it's always tough to play against you," the 25-year-old champion said about second seed Rybakina.

"We've played many important matches against each other, and I'm sure there are going to be many, many more."

Świątek has now won all five significant North American titles: Indian Wells (2022, 2024), Miami (2022), US Open (2022), Cincinnati (2025) and Canada (2026).
