HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour 2026: Egypt's Seif Refaay, Sohayla Hazem win titles in Kolkata

Seif Refaay and Sohayla Hazem registered 3-1 wins over fellow Egyptians in the men's and women's finals, respectively.

Egypt's Seif Refaay and Sohayla Hazem won the men's and women's titles, respectively, at the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour 2026 at the Calcutta Racket Club in Kolkata on Friday.

In the men's singles final, third seed Seif Refaay lost the first game before rallying to defeat top seeded compatriot Mohamed Gohar 3-1 (6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4) to clinch the title.

After receiving an opening round bye, Seif Refaay registered a straight-game win over Germany's Fabian Igelbrink in the second round before overcoming countryman Hazem Hossam 3-1 in the quarter-final.

Seif Refaay had also beaten Hazem Hossam in the final of the HCL Squash PSA Challenger Tour in Ahmedabad in January.

In the semi-finals, Seif Refaay pulled off a 3-1 win over compatriot and second seed Ahmed Said Sobhy.

Suraj Kumar Chand, who became the country's first-ever gold medallist at the FISU World University Championship earlier this month, had the deepest runs in the men's event among Indian squash players .

Meanwhile, third seed Sohayla Hazem also beat fellow Egyptian and second-seeded Menna Walid 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8) to clinch the women's singles crown.

After receiving a first-round bye, Sohayla Hazem beat India's Anjali Semwal 3-0 in the second round before dispatching another Indian, Ananya Narayanan, in straight games in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, Sohayla Hazem rallied from behind to register a 3-1 win over top seed Tanvi Khanna, who is a part of the Indian squash team for the Asian Games to be held later this year.

Squash is set to make its Olympic debut at LA 2028 .
