Jemimah Rodrigues ruled out of Asian Games 2026 with hamstring injury

The star Indian batter will also miss the Women’s Asia Cup scheduled to start from August 28.

The Indian women’s cricket team suffered a major setback after star batter Jemimah Rodrigues was ruled out of the Asia Cup and Asian Games 2026 with a hamstring injury.

Following a clinical assessment at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the BCCI’s medical team on Friday ruled her out of both tournaments after she sustained a high-grade tear to her right hamstring.

The Women’s Selection Committee has named Pratika Rawal as Jemimah’s replacement for the Women’s Asia Cup , which is scheduled to be held from August 28 to September 13.

Jemimah Rodrigues sustained the hamstring injury during her time with English franchise Southern Brave in The Hundred and was subsequently ruled out of the tournament. The Hundred is England’s domestic 100-ball cricket competition.

The Indian batter’s injury is a major blow to both Southern Brave and India, with Jemimah Rodrigues being a key middle-order batter who has consistently delivered in high-pressure matches.

Prior to her injury, Rodrigues had scored 143 runs from six innings and picked up back-to-back Player of the Match awards for the Southern Brave against Sunrisers Leeds and MI London.

In national colours, Jemimah Rodrigues played a key role in India’s maiden Women’s ODI World Cup triumph last year.

The 25-year-old smashed an unbeaten 127 against seven-time world champions Australia in the semi-finals, powering India to a world-record chase of 338 and a place in the final.

A Rodrigues-less India will begin their Women’s Asia Cup campaign - which will be played in the T20 format - on August 30, having been drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong China.

India will face Pakistan in Dubai on September 5.

The Asian Games campaign, which will also be in the T20 format, will follow later in September, with top-seeded India set to face Japan in the women’s quarter-finals.
