Chennai Open WTA 2026 set to be held Nov 2–8 in Chennai; electronic line-calling on all three courts

Chennai Open WTA 2026 set to be held from November 2 to 8

This will be the third edition of the WTA 250 tennis tournament and will feature electronic Line Calling technology for the first time on all three match courts.

The Chennai Open 2026 , a WTA 250 event, will take place from November 2 to 8, the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA) announced on Friday.

“A WTA 250 event is returning to India for the third time and the players expected to participate in the event would be amongst the top 100 in the world,” Indian tennis legend and TNTA president Vijay Amritraj said.

The Chennai Open tennis tournament will return to India for a second consecutive year following a three-year hiatus that ended in 2025.

The inaugural Chennai Open was held in 2022, with Czechia’s Linda Fruhvirtova winning the singles title, while Grand Slam winners and Olympians Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Luisa Stefani of Brazil claimed the doubles crown.

Indonesia’s Janice Tjen won the singles title at last year’s Chennai Open before teaming up with compatriot Aldila Sutjiadi to also claim the doubles crown.

The 2025 edition of the Chennai Open also saw Sahaja Yamalapalli and Shrivalli Bhamidipaty both reach the second round, marking the first time two Indian women had advanced that far at a WTA 250 event.

The hard courts at the SDAT Nungambakkam stadium in Chennai will continue to serve as the venue for all matches with the eventual winners set to receive 250 ranking points that are awarded for winning the tournament.

The 2026 edition of the Chennai Open will also introduce technological upgrades. “This year, we are to use the electronic Line Calling technology for the first time on all three match courts,” Vijay Amritraj said.

A total of 32 players will be participating in the singles draw while 16 pairs will make up the doubles section.
