Nicosia District Local Government Organisation to build four GLS water reservoirs in Nicosia; uninterrupted 23-hour supply to consumers

Water security projects - Reforms and Investments - European Commission

The objective of this investment is to ensure water security in the districts of Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol.

More specifically, in Nicosia, the measure foresees the construction of four (4) new-generation Glass Lined Steel (GLS) water reservoirs with a total capacity of 34,000 m³. These reservoirs will enable the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation to maintain sufficient water storage capacity to ensure uninterrupted 23-hour supply to consumers, even in cases of temporary network shutdowns.

The construction of two of the new-generation GLS water reservoirs in Nicosia, with a combined capacity of 16,000 m³, construction works were completed in June 2024 and the third reservoir with a capacity of 10,000 m³ was completed in July 2025. The fourth reservoir, with a capacity of 8,000 m³, is expected to be completed in August 2026.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 4.8 million for the Nicosia reservoirs.
