FIVB Coaches Courses gather mid-year pace in St. Kitts & Nevis, Georgia and Cyprus – FIVB

The FIVB continued its 2026 Coaches Courses activities in July, providing coaches with further opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills across volleyball and beach volleyball.

All five courses were conducted in English, beginning in St. Kitts & Nevis, where 25 coaches gathered in Basseterre for the FIVB Coaches Course Beach Volleyball from 6 to 10 July. Supported by Olympic Solidarity and led by FIVB Instructor Mark Kontopoulos, the course included eight women, while 15 of the participants were aged 26 or under.

The young group brought plenty of energy to the theoretical and practical sessions, with Kontopoulos highlighting their engagement and motivation throughout the five days. The local federation, led by President Glenn Quinlan, supported the delivery of the course in Basseterre.

Attention then turned to Tbilisi, Georgia, where 36 coaches took part in the FIVB Coaches Course Level I Volleyball from 16 to 20 July. Led by FIVB Instructor Jana Kulan, the group included 17 women and brought together coaches from Georgia and abroad.

The five-day course combined theoretical and practical sessions, with participants actively involved across both parts of the programme. The national federation played a central role in staging the course, with Kulan noting its commitment to developing local coaches while also welcoming those from other countries.

Two more courses began on 22 July. In Limassol, Cyprus, 24 coaches from eight countries attended the FIVB Coaches Course Level I Volleyball, led by FIVB Instructor Georgios Giatsis. The programme covered the fundamentals of passing, setting, spiking, serving and blocking, alongside game strategy and player development.

The course also explored match preparation, rules and regulations, ethics and leadership, evolving tactical and technical trends and the use of technology in volleyball. Written and practical examinations were held on the final day.

At the same time, Tbilisi hosted the FIVB Coaches Course Level II Volleyball from 22 to 26 July. Kulan returned to lead 17 coaches, including seven women, just two days after the Level I course in the Georgian capital had concluded.

With the arrangements from the previous course already in place, the Level II programme was able to make a smooth transition into its five days of activity. Theoretical sessions took place at the course hotel, while the indoor gym was within walking distance for the practical sessions.

Georgia then completed its three-course run with the FIVB Coaches Course Beach Volleyball in Tbilisi from 27 to 31 July. FIVB Instructor Johann Huber led 16 coaches, including seven women, with all but one of the participants coming from a background as an active or former player.

Their playing experience translated naturally into the practical sessions, with the group keen to spend as much time as possible training and playing.
