Yu Yiting wins 200m individual medley at Pan Pacific Championships 2026 in Irvine, California; Championship record 2:07.45

Pan Pacific Swimming Championships 2026: Yu Yiting edges Summer McIntosh to claim 200m individual medley title

The People’s Republic of China swimmer set a Championship Record 2:07.45 for the win in California, ahead of Olympic champion McIntosh. Alex Walsh of the U.S. finished third for the bronze and first career Pan Pacs medal.

Yu Yiting of the People’s Republic of China defeated a strong field including world record holder Summer McIntosh to win the 200-metre individual medley at the the 2026 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California on Saturday (15 August).

The two-time Olympic relay medallist was under world-record pace on the opening butterfly leg before Regan Smith of the US took over the lead on the backstroke.

But Yu surged to the front again in the breaststroke and went on to set a new championship record of 2 minutes, 7.45 seconds, holding off McIntosh in the closing metres.

McIntosh, who claimed just one lone individual victory of the week in the 400 IM, took silver in 2:07.47, with Alex Walsh of the US claiming bronze in 2:07.66. Smith went on to finish fourth.
