Great Britain ran a European record of 39.97 seconds for gold, with Germany taking silver, while Spain claimed the bronze.

Dina Asher-Smith and Amy Hunt will go into the history books of the European Athletics Championships after helping Great Britain to mixed 4x100m relay gold on the final day of the 2026 edition in Birmingham on Sunday (16 August).

With the event making its Euros debut, the Great Britain quartet, which also included 100m and 200m silver medallists Jeremiah Azu and Zharnel Hughes , respectively, delivered victory on a home track, with Hunt anchoring the team to a new European record of 39.97 .

With the win, Asher-Smith has now become the most decorated athlete in European Championships history with 11 medals , overtaking Poland's Irena Szewińska , who has 10.

"It's good to get to try something new," Asher-Smith told the BBC after the event.

"The more we do it, the more we learn the tips and tricks of the event to keep running faster."

Hunt, on the other hand, has become the first athlete to win four gold medals at a single European Championships , adding to her victories in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.

"Oh my gosh, I am over the moon. I think to finish it off with some of my best friends in the sport," Hunt said.

Germany, anchored by Gina Lückenkemper , pushed Great Britain all the way but eventually settled for silver, with Spain taking bronze in 40.42 .
