voestalpine cares run: employees helped raise EUR 700,000 for international aid projects
In 2026, the voestalpine cares run once again impressively demonstrated what collective
commitment can achieve. For the fourth time, employees of the globally operating steel and
technology group from 45 countries worldwide participated in the international excercise initiative
and collected so-called “cares” through sporting activities. voestalpine converted these cares into a
donation totaling EUR 700,000 for charitable purposes. The donations have now been handed over
to Doctors Without Borders, Hilfswerk International, the Austrian Red Cross, and UNICEF Austria for
selected national and international aid projects.
During the fourth voestalpine cares run, more than 8,300 employees covered around 1 million
kilometers in just under three months—running, walking, hiking, wheelchair riding, or hand biking—
under the motto “Running together for a good cause.” Thanks to their tremendous commitment, the
fundraising goal was reached five days before the official end of the campaign. “By taking part in such
large numbers in the fourth voestalpine cares run, our employees not only did something good for their
health but also sent a strong social message with the impressive result of more than 1.3 billion steps
collected. I am particularly pleased that we at voestalpine were once again able to donate the
maximum amount of EUR 700,000 to national and international aid projects,” says Herbert
Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine AG.
Donations for Charitable Aid Projects
Once again this year, voestalpine is using the donations collected as part of the voestalpine cares run
to support aid projects by UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, Hilfswerk International, and the Austrian
Red Cross. The projects listed below are directly supported by the donation:
»
Austria-wide Learning Support – Austrian Red Cross: Approximately 400 children and young
people across Austria are reached through free and easily accessible learning support at over
250 locations—including schools, Red Cross learning centers, and Red Cross locations.
»
Skills4Girls – UNICEF: In Indonesia, young people participating in Skills4Girls are gaining new
educational and future opportunities. Approximately 1,000 young people, especially girls,
benefit directly from STEM, digital, entrepreneurial, and green skills, while over 52,000 others
benefit indirectly through school-based activities.
»
Digital Learning Centers – UNICEF: In Ukraine, Digital Learning Centers provide safe learning
spaces during times of war. Children gain access to digital devices, learning materials, and
psychosocial support.
»
Mobile Clinics – Doctors Without Borders: The mobile clinics bring basic medical care to areas
where people would otherwise have little access to it. In remote regions of India, around 1,160
patients can be treated.

MSF Academy – Doctors Without Borders: Through the MSF Academy, local professionals in
African crisis regions receive long-term training. As a result, approximately 22,000 births can
be professionally attended each year.
»
Help Points – Hilfswerk International: The Help Points offer people in Ukraine quick and
straightforward assistance in war-affected areas. Over 2,500 people receive food, daily
necessities, and psychosocial support for one month.
