Indian Athletics Series 2026 Warangal: Pravalika Narimalla beats two-time Olympian Subha Venkatesan for 400m title

Prakruthi Roopa completed a sprint double by winning the 100m and 200m events. Manoj Kumar led the men’s javelin throw.

Pravalika Narimalla edged two-time Olympian Subha Venkatesan to win the women’s 400m event at the 13th leg of the Indian Athletics Series 2026 in Warangal , Telangana, on Tuesday.

Competing at the JN Stadium in Hanamkonda, the 20-year-old Pravalika clocked 54.31s to finish just 0.13 seconds ahead of Subha, who crossed the line in 54.44s. Anankha took third place in 55.32s.

Subha Venkatesan was part of India’s women’s and mixed 4x400m relay teams that won silvers at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. She was also a member of the quartets that won the women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m titles at the Asian Athletics Championships last year.

Pravalika, meanwhile, was part of the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team that won the gold medal at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, People’s Republic of China, last month.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pravalika finished third in the women’s 200m with a time of 24.42s. Prakruthi Roopa won the race in 23.93s, ahead of V Sudheeksha, who clocked 24.40s.

The 23-year-old Prakruthi also topped the women’s 100m for a sprint double in Warangal. She clocked 11.74s to beat Suba Dharsini (11.80s) and Sudheeksha (12.01s).

Prakruthi had finished third in the 200m at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar in June, clocking 23.58s to breach the Athletics Federation of India’s Asian Games qualifying standard of 23.70s.

In the men’s 400m, Suraj recorded the fastest time of 46.88s, followed by Barath (46.99s) and Rince Joseph (47.61s).

Olympian Muhammed Anas Yahiya finished seventh in Race F with 49.65s, which was the 16th-fastest time across the men’s 400m races. Anas was part of India’s men’s 4x400m relay team that won the Asian Games title in Hangzhou.

The men’s javelin throw saw Manoj Kumar top the field with a best effort of 72.76m. Shashank Patil finished second with 70.98m while Uttam Patil was third with 70.61m.

Elsewhere, Dinesh V topped the men’s triple jump with 16.20m, while Santosh M cleared 2.13m to finish first in the men’s high jump.

The Indian Athletics Series will resume with its 14th leg in Panchkula, Haryana, on August 25.
