How did the Dresden University of Technology act during the Nazi era? What scope of action did scholars have within a totalitarian system—and what responsibilities did universities bear during times of political and social extremes? These questions will be the focus of the mid-term conference of the research project “The Dresden University of Technology under National Socialism,” taking place October 28–30, 2026 , in the Dülfersaal at TU Dresden.
The conference offers researchers involved in the project a forum to discuss their findings in dialogue with renowned historians. Academic commentary will contextualize the presentations within current research debates and provide an initial academic assessment of the project’s progress to date.
A special highlight: To kick off the event on October 28 at 6:00 p.m., Prof. Dr. Volker Roelcke (University of Giessen) will deliver the keynote lecture: “Totalitarianism, Racism, and War: The Scope for Action of Universities under National Socialism.” As a renowned expert on the history of medicine under National Socialism, Roelcke will examine the possibilities and limitations of scholarly activity within a totalitarian system.
The complete program can be found here . Participation in the conference is free of charge. Registration is requested. Please note: The conference will be held in German.
