15 Years Hellmann in Vietnam: Growing together in a fast-changing market

Interview with HaVan Truong, Managing Director Hellmann Vietnam

In 2011, Hellmann opened its first office in Vietnam. Fifteen years later, the company has established a strong presence in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic markets, with offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and a team supporting customers across Vietnam and beyond.

On this occasion, colleagues came together in Tam Dao and Mui Ne to celebrate the anniversary. The events provided an opportunity to look back on the milestones of the past 15 years, recognize the people behind the development of Hellmann Vietnam, and look ahead to the next chapter.

We spoke with HaVan Truong, Managing Director Vietnam , about how the organization has evolved, what makes the Vietnamese market special, and where she sees the biggest opportunities for the future.

When you look back at the past 15 years, what stands out to you most?

HaVan Truong: When we established Hellmann Vietnam in 2011, we started with just 20 employees in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Today, we have a team of 80 colleagues and have grown significantly across our business.

Our shipment volumes have tripled, while both airfreight tonnage and seafreight volumes have increased more than fivefold. At the same time, we have diversified our customer portfolio. While our business was initially focused primarily on Fashion, today we also have strong expertise in High Tech, Automotive, Industrial and Consumer Goods.

What makes me most proud, however, is our team. Their commitment, strong team spirit and passion for serving our customers have been the driving forces behind our development.

Vietnam itself has changed enormously since 2011. How has the logistics market developed?

HaVan Truong: The transformation has been significant. Fifteen years ago, the logistics market was still relatively fragmented and infrastructure was less developed. Since then, major investments have been made in ports, airports, highways, industrial parks and digital infrastructure.

At the same time, Vietnam has become an increasingly important manufacturing and sourcing location. Growth in industries such as High Tech, Electronics, Automotive, Industrial Manufacturing and Consumer Goods has also changed what customers expect from logistics providers.

Today, it is no longer just about moving goods from A to B. Customers expect visibility, resilient supply chains, digital solutions and integrated services. This requires logistics providers to combine operational capabilities with technology and strong industry expertise.

What are Hellmann Vietnam’s main strengths today?

HaVan Truong: One of our biggest strengths is the combination of Hellmann’s global network with the agility and customer focus of our local team. We work closely with our customers to understand their individual requirements and develop solutions around their supply chains.

International Airfreight and Seafreight remain the backbone of our business, complemented by customs brokerage, cross-border trucking, warehousing and distribution.

Another important factor is our industry expertise. Understanding the specific requirements different industries, allows us to go beyond transportation and support customers with more tailored solutions.

What makes Vietnam particularly interesting for international companies right now?

HaVan Truong: Vietnam has developed into an important manufacturing and sourcing hub in Asia. Its location within Southeast Asia, growing infrastructure and connectivity to major international markets make it attractive for companies looking to diversify their supply chains.

The continued development of the manufacturing sector also creates new opportunities for more sophisticated logistics solutions. At the same time, the market remains dynamic, so having strong local expertise is essential.

Where do you see the biggest opportunities for Hellmann Vietnam in the coming years?

HaVan Truong: We see strong potential as more international companies expand their manufacturing activities in Vietnam. This is particularly relevant in industries that already align closely with Hellmann’s global expertise.

We also want to further develop our integrated service portfolio and support customers with increasingly complex supply chain requirements.

But our people will remain at the heart of our development. Investing in our team and continuing to build our capabilities will be essential as we move into the next chapter of Hellmann Vietnam.

Thank you for sharing your insights, and congratulations again to the entire Hellmann Vietnam team on this special milestone.
