Strategic fleet expansion: Grúas Aguilar bolsters its growth trajectory with 15 new Liebherr cranes

Contract signed for 15 new Liebherr cranes

The LR 1800-1.0 is now the largest crawler crane in the Grúas Aguilar fleet

Long-standing partnership between Grúas Aguilar and Liebherr further expanded

The Spanish crane company Grúas Aguilar continues to invest consistently in the modernisation and expansion of its fleet. With an order for 15 new Liebherr cranes, the company is underlining its growth ambitions and systematically expanding its capacity both in Spain and on international markets. The new additions include the fleet’s new flagship, the LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane, and the LTM 1400-6.1 mobile crane, both of which have already been taken delivery of and successfully put into operation.

The investment comprises a wide range of high-performance mobile and crawler cranes. Highlights include the 800-tonne crawler crane LR 1800-1.0 and the new Liebherr mobile crane LTM 1400-6.1 with a maximum lifting capacity of 450 tonnes. This machine is the first of its kind to be delivered in Spain. The order also includes the LTM 1300-6.4 with a 90-metre telescopic boom and the state-of-the-art LICCON3 crane control system. The order is supplemented by several mobile cranes of the types LTM 1060-3.1, LTM 1090-4.3 and LTM 1100-5.3, as well as an MK 140-5.1E mobile construction crane. The first machines have already been delivered, with further units to follow in stages until the first quarter of 2027.

LR 1800-1.0 expands operational capabilities

Particular attention is being paid to the LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane, which is now the most powerful machine in Grúas Aguilar’s fleet. The 800-tonne crane offers outstanding lifting capacities and is designed as a particularly powerful industrial crane for use with a luffing jib and derrick system in industrial plants, power station construction or the petrochemical industry. The LR 1800-1.0 is also ideally suited to the erection of wind turbines and wind farm maintenance operations.

The crane has already completed its first assignment for Grúas Aguilar on a major infrastructure project in Madrid. There, it assisted with the installation of the ‘Mayrit’ tunnel boring machine for the expansion of the Spanish capital’s underground network.

By continuously renewing its fleet, Grúas Aguilar has consistently expanded its market position in recent years. With sites in Madrid, Barcelona, Mallorca and Tarragona, the company has a strong presence on the Spanish market whilst also being active in international projects. “Liebherr, and in particular Liebherr Ibérica – our direct local contact – are far more than just a supplier to us. A partnership based on trust has developed over many years. Today, almost 90 per cent of our mobile and crawler crane fleet comes from Liebherr. The decisive factors here are the reliability of the machines, the high quality of service and the continuous technological development of the products,” explains Luis Aguilar, owner of the Aguilar Group.

The collaboration between Grúas Aguilar and Liebherr dates back to the founding of Liebherr Ibérica in 1988. The two companies are linked by a long-standing partnership based on trust, quality of service and shared growth objectives. “Grúas Aguilar’s confidence in our products and services is a special tribute to our decades-long collaboration. Together, we have built a partnership characterised by reliability, commitment and a shared vision. We look forward to continuing to support Grúas Aguilar in modernising its fleet and successfully implementing challenging projects,” says Tobias Böhler, Managing Director of Liebherr Ibérica.
