The Paris 2024 gold medallist will race the iconic five-borough course for the second time in her career, having finished sixth at the 2025 edition.

Paris 2024 Olympic marathon champion Sifan Hassan will race the 2026 New York City Marathon, organisers announced on Wednesday (19 August). The race, which spans all five of NYC’s boroughs, is set for 1 November.

“I’m really looking forward to New York,” Hassan said. “I’ve had a lot more time to get ready for this marathon than I did last year. I’m happy I didn’t take any risks with my injury in the spring, that’s given me the chance to prepare properly and come into New York healthy. Training is going well, I really want to be competitive in New York this year!”

Hassan has taken the world of marathon by storm. Her debut in the event came just three years ago at the London Marathon, where she won.

That same year, she set a European record at the Chicago Marathon, before taking gold at the Olympic Games in 2024 in an Olympic record time. At the Olympic Games, Hassan owns six total medals. She’s taken three golds: 5000m and 10,000m at Tokyo 2020 , in addition to the Paris triumph in the marathon.

The 2026 edition will be Hassan’s second appearance in New York, having raced to a sixth-place finish in 2025.
