„A team I rate very highly“
Florian Kohfeldt answered questions from the assembled journalists at our press conference ahead of the away match against Dynamo Dresden (August 16, 1:30pm). We have summarised the key points from Kohfeldt’s remarks for you.
Following a difficult first half of the season after their promotion, Dynamo Dresden increasingly found their footing in the 2. Bundesliga over the course of the previous campaign. The Saxon side really stepped up their game in the second half of the season, climbing from the bottom of the table to finish in eleventh place and secure their survival in the league. On the sidelines, SGD continues to place its trust in Thomas Stamm, who has been in charge since the summer of 2024. After an opening 3–0 defeat in Nürnberg, SV Darmstadt 98 now awaits them in the first home match of the new season.
A forum for meeting and getting to know one another
For many years, the Lilien sponsors’ summer party has been a fixture on the SV Darmstadt 98 summer calendar. For this year’s event, the club headed to the Ried region—specifically to the Coreum in Stockstadt am Rhein. Together with more than 400 guests, the Lilien enjoyed an evening that was both informative and entertaining, and which flew by in a flash.
The name of the venue could not have been more fitting for the event: „Coreum“ is a portmanteau of the words „Core“ and „Forum.“ In a figurative sense, the Coreum truly became a forum for connection that evening, bringing together a vital core of SV 98: the professional squad and the „Lilies’“ partners and sponsors.
„Professional football in Darmstadt wouldn’t be possible without you!“ Markus Pfitzner emphasised in his welcoming address, thanking the partners and sponsors present for their support. Looking ahead to the club’s overall goals, Pfitzner noted: „We want to keep growing. We are working on issues such as infrastructure and stadium modifications. We will report on these matters at the general meeting in October. But the club is stable, the club has plans for the future, and—something I’m particularly looking forward to—we will also get to know our new squad better this evening.“
„Getting to know one another“ was a fitting theme, as the traditional team presentation gave attendees the chance to learn more about the players, especially the numerous new signings. Players like Christopher Lannert and Hojae Lee had their say, as did captain Marcel Schuhen, Managing Director of Sport Paul Fernie, and head coach Florian Kohfeldt—all of whom shared interesting anecdotes prompted by stadium announcer and host Colin Mahnke.
Earlier, guests had been welcomed by Coreum Managing Directors Kathrin Kiesel and Björn Hickmann, followed by addresses from Lilies Managing Director Martin Kowalewski and Vice President Arnd Zinnhardt. Here, too, the theme of „getting to know one another“ applied: both offered fascinating insights into current club topics, such as the creation process behind the new kits and the new premium partnerships with Sparkasse Darmstadt und Dieburg and Focused Energy. The cooperation with Sinalco at the „Top Partner“ level was also highlighted. A look ahead was also provided with the announcement of the charity gala, which will take place on November 25th in collaboration with Klöber and Da Capo. Further details regarding the event will follow in the coming weeks.
SV 98 extends its thanks to all the partners and sponsors who accepted the invitation to Stockstadt and joined the Lilies in ushering in the new season.
