Mondo Duplantis clears 6.20m for victory in Silesia

The Swedish athlete won his third event in eight days on Sunday, finishing ahead of his Greek rival, Emmanouil Karalis clearing 6.20 meters in the non-Diamond League event.

There were no surprises in the men’s pole vault event at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Diamond League meeting in Silesia, as Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis claimed his third win in eight days on Sunday, August 23.

Duplantis cleared 5.65m, 5.90m, 6.00m and 6.10m with his second attempts. After going past 6.20m on his first try, it was clear that he had the world record in mind.

Then, as has happened so often before, the athletics megastar was the only man left in the competition as he chased the mark of 6.32m. After failing in his first try, he wrapped up his competition.

Duplantis, the two-time Olympic champion, raised his own world record from 6:17m in 2020 to 6.31m in March 2026.

Emmanouil Karalis and Norwegian Sondre Guttormsen, the only other athletes to clear 6.00m, tied for second. The Greek cleared 6.00m before failing in three attempts at 6.20m, while Guttormsen also cleared 6.00m at the first attempt.
