A Milestone for Security of Supply
Approximately 400 million euros are being invested in the expansion of the Bonback industrial bakery in Halle (Saale)
Approximately 400 future-proof jobs with collective bargaining agreements will be created.
Five new baking lines and a deep-freeze high-bay warehouse with 65,000 storage spaces will strengthen supply security.
Halle (Saale), August 26, 2026 – Schwarz Produktion today held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the expansion of the Bonback industrial bakery. With an investment of around 400 million euros, the company is significantly expanding its facility in the Star Park industrial park. In doing so, the food manufacturer is strengthening supply security and creating approximately 400 jobs in the region that are covered by collective bargaining agreements.
Capacity Expansion and Modern Logistics Infrastructure
With the construction of a new production building, Bonback will gain five additional baking lines, thereby increasing the site’s total production capacity many times over. To ensure the efficient handling of goods flows, a new, fully automated deep-freeze high-bay warehouse with approximately 65,000 pallet spaces is being built at the same time. In the future, this will serve as a central logistics hub for the storage and distribution of baked goods. Work on the expansion site will begin after the groundbreaking ceremony. The expanded production facility is scheduled to begin operations as early as 2028.

Energy Concept Featuring Renewable Energy and Waste Heat Recovery
The investment amount, which has been increased once again compared to the original plan, is being directed specifically toward energy-efficient technology and logistics infrastructure to ensure the plant is optimally positioned and future-proof for the coming decades.
High energy efficiency is a key focus of the expansion: Once completed, the expanded bakery complex will be powered 100 percent by electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition, cooling systems with heat recovery based on natural refrigerants will be used to minimize energy consumption and ensure the site’s long-term sustainability. The site will be highly digitized.
