Amber Grid Awards Three-Year Contract for ROSEN’s Award-Winning NIPA Integrity Service

Amber Grid, Lithuania’s gas transmission system operator, has awarded ROSEN a three-year contract for the deployment of its award-winning Non-Intrusive Pipeline Assessment (NIPA) service across approximately 221 km of complex and unpiggable pipeline infrastructure.

The program represents one of the largest long-term deployments of advanced non-intrusive integrity assessment technology in the region and demonstrates Amber Grid’s proactive approach to safeguarding critical energy infrastructure.

A significant portion of Lithuania’s gas transmission network consists of pipelines that cannot be inspected using conventional in-line inspection (ILI) tools. These assets present a unique integrity challenge, requiring innovative approaches to ensure continued safety, reliability and operational performance. By selecting ROSEN’s NIPA service, Amber Grid is strengthening its ability to understand asset condition, prioritize integrity activities and make data-driven decisions across some of its most complex pipeline assets, without interrupting gas transmission operations.

As one of ROSEN’s specialized solutions for managing the integrity of challenging and unpiggable pipelines, NIPA provides a non-intrusive approach that helps operators gain greater confidence in pipeline condition where conventional in-line inspection cannot be applied or a rapid initial assessment is required. Combining AI-augmented predictive analytics, engineering expertise and advanced above-ground survey technologies, including ROSEN’s patented Large Stand-Off Magnetometry (LSM), cathodic protection data and geographic information systems (GIS), NIPA delivers enhanced insight into pipeline condition and supports more effective integrity management decisions. At the heart of the solution is ROSEN’s Integrity Data Warehouse, containing data from more than 26,000 in-line inspections worldwide. Bringing together decades of expertise in inspection technologies, defect mechanisms and asset behavior, this extensive integrity knowledge base strengthens the development, validation and interpretation of NIPA’s AI-supported models. The result is a deeper understanding of asset condition and potential threats, enabling operators to make more confident, data-driven integrity management decisions

Nemunas Biknius, CEO, Amber Grid, said: “Ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted gas transmission system is one of our key strategic priorities and is closely linked to Lithuania’s energy security. That is why it is essential for us to have the ability to assess pipelines that cannot be inspected using conventional in-line inspection methods.

We first tested this technology last year, and having seen its potential, we are now taking the next step by expanding its application. We are pleased that this project will be implemented by ROSEN, a trusted and internationally recognized company with extensive expertise in pipeline integrity and diagnostics.

Investing in advanced diagnostic technologies not only gives us a better understanding of the condition of our infrastructure but also enables us to identify potential risks at an early stage and plan maintenance activities more effectively. This is an important contribution to the long-term resilience of Lithuania’s energy system and, ultimately, to the country’s energy security.”

Gaffar Mirzoev, Head of Engineering and Consultancy , ROSEN Europe B.V., said: “Amber Grid is taking a forward-looking approach to one of the industry’s most complex integrity challenges. The deployment of NIPA across a significant portion of its difficult-to-inspect pipeline network demonstrates how operators are increasingly combining engineering expertise, advanced assessment technologies and data-driven insights to improve confidence in integrity decision-making. We are proud that Amber Grid has selected NIPA to support the long-term reliability of this critical energy infrastructure.”

The contract further reinforces the growing adoption of advanced, data-driven integrity solutions across the global energy sector and strengthens NIPA’s position as a leading approach for the non-intrusive assessment of unpiggable pipelines. By combining Amber Grid’s commitment to operational excellence with ROSEN’s integrity expertise, advanced technologies and AI-enabled analytics, this program will support more confident decision-making, targeted integrity management and the long-term reliability of critical energy infrastructure. Together, Amber Grid and ROSEN are demonstrating how technology-driven collaboration can help operators address complex integrity challenges and build a safer, more resilient and sustainable energy future.
