Bertschi explores alternative supply chains with Arctic trial voyage

26.08.2026, 13:57 Uhr Dürrenäsch - Bertschi has joined the first trial voyage through the Arctic. ISO tank containers belonging to the Swiss logistics service provider for the chemical industry are on board the PANSTAR ACRO, which is sailing from Busan to Gdańsk via the Northern Sea Route.

( CONNECT ) Bertschi ISO tank containers are part of PanStar Line’s first South Korean container trial voyage via the Northern Sea Route, according to a statement . The logistics service provider for the chemical industry is based in Dürrenäsch in the Swiss canton of Aargau. Its containers are among the cargo aboard the PANSTAR ACRO, which departed the Port of Busan, South Korea on 22 August 2026 en route to Gdańsk, Poland. The pilot sailing is intended to test a seasonal maritime connection between Northeast Asia and Northern Europe, Bertschi says. With a currently planned transit time of 19 days, the Busan-Rotterdam is significantly shorter than Asia-Europe routes operating around the Cape of Good Hope, which takes about 40 days.

For Bertschi, this participation is an initial step to assess the route’s implications for schedule reliability, equipment condition and handling, regulatory requirements, and overall operational viability.

The rationale behind exploring the alternative route is to maintain reliable connections between Europe and Asia, according to Jan Arnet, CEO of the Bertschi Group. “Resilient supply chains depend on understanding alternative transport corridors before they are urgently needed,” he said. “Our participation in this trial allows us to build operational knowledge at an early stage.” ce
