From setback to success: Sara Peidrò’s Baseball5 journey to achieving her national team dream

Spain’s bronze medal at the Baseball5 Mediterranean Cup 2026 in Taranto earlier this month was the product of a tremendous team effort built on years of hard work and sacrifice.

Nineteen-year-old Sara Peidrò Cremades embodies that spirit.

After narrowly missing selection for the WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup 2025 , Peidrò responded by working harder and refusing to abandon her dream of representing Spain.

Her perseverance was rewarded the following year when she earned a place in the national team for the Baseball5 exhibition tournament at the Mediterranean Games. in Taranto, Italy.

“Last year, I made it to the pre-selection squad, but I wasn’t selected for the World Cup,” Peidrò said. “So I pushed myself even harder to be here this year, and I’m very proud of myself.”

Her previous experience in softball provided a strong foundation for that journey, helping her adapt to Baseball5 and give everything for the national team.

For Peidrò, Baseball5 has also offered an opportunity to keep learning and acquire skills that can benefit her across both disciplines.

“Thanks to Baseball5, I learned that when you make an error, you have to keep trying,” she said. “If you don’t catch the ball, the next teammate will go for it.”

Her softball background helped her quickly understand some of Baseball5’s fundamentals and further develop her defensive skills.

“Playing softball helped me because the basics are quite similar, such as throwing to first and second, turning double plays, running the bases and fielding the ball,” she explained.

At the same time, Peidrò had to adjust her technique to meet the fast-paced demands of Baseball5.

“I keep my eyes on the ball all the time,” she said. “I had to change some techniques to play Baseball5.”

The discipline has also helped her strengthen her mindset and attention to detail.

“You have to keep trying and stay focused,” Peidrò said. “You have to tell yourself, ‘I’ve got it, I’ve got it,’ and keep correcting the little things.”

Beyond the technical aspects of the game, she has developed important skills in teamwork and communication.

“I have also learned how to play as a team and communicate on the field,” she said. “That is very important.”

Peidrò believes Baseball5’s mixed-gender format, one of the discipline’s defining characteristics, plays an important role in creating that strong team dynamic.

“It’s amazing because we bring different qualities,” she said. “We cheer for each other, have fun together and enjoy the experience. You learn a lot about communication. I think it’s perfect.”

With the Mediterranean Games now behind her and a bronze medal to show for her efforts, Peidrò is turning her attention towards the challenges ahead.

After helping Gandia Beisbol Club finish fourth at the 2026 WBSC Baseball5 European Cup in Vilnius, she hopes to wear Spain’s national colours once again.

Spain will make their elite Baseball5 World Cup debut in Puerto Rico from 9 to 13 December, taking on the world’s leading teams with growing confidence and the momentum generated by their bronze-medal performance in Taranto.
