Transfer News: Mikelbrencis strengthens SV 98

One day before their home game against Hannover 96, Darmstadt 98 have announced another new signing. William Mikelbrencis will now wear the SV 98 jersey. The 22-year-old Frenchman was under contract with Hamburger SV until June 30th.

Paul Fernie: “We had many discussions with William and are delighted that we were able to convince him of our vision. He demonstrated his qualities in Hamburg and also received significant playing time in the Bundesliga last year. With him, we’re getting a player who, despite being only 22, has already gained considerable experience and is also familiar with the league.”

William Mikelbrencis: “The club officials made a real effort to sign me and showed me that they really wanted me on their team. I also visited the facilities and got a very good impression of how things are done here in Darmstadt. Ultimately, this offer gave me the best overall feeling, and now I’m really looking forward to wearing the Lily on my chest.”

The full-back was developed in the youth academy of FC Metz and made a total of 14 appearances for the French club’s first team in 2022, nine of them in Ligue 1. He made his debut in the top French league at the age of 18. In August 2022, Mikelbrencis transferred to Hamburger SV. The right-footed player made 68 appearances for the Red Shorts and celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga with HSV in 2025. Last season, he played in 26 Bundesliga matches for Hamburg.

Michelbrencis is a former French youth international. He earned a total of 21 caps for the U16, U18, U19, and U21 teams of Les Bleus.

He will wear the number 25 jersey at Darmstadt 98.
