White & Case advises Avantus on US$300 million tax equity commitment for Aratina 2 solar and storage project

Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Avantus on a US$300 million tax equity commitment from Truist Bank for the Aratina 2 utility-scale solar and storage project in eastern Kern County, California. Currently under construction and expected to be operational by the end of 2026, Aratina 2 will deliver 150 megawatts (MWs) of solar generation and 452 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage capacity to the California grid.

White & Case advised on a more than US$525 million debt financing for the project last month.

Aratina 2 is the second phase of the Aratina Solar Center, which, together with Aratina 1, will total 350 MWs of solar with 952 MWh of battery storage.

The White & Case team was co-led by Project Development & Finance partners Nandan Nelivigi (New York) and Michael Sykes (Washington, DC), with support from partners David Strickland (Houston) and Raffaele Turco (New York). The team also included Project Development & Finance associates Clarissa Lotson, Renee Concha, Adam Conwell, Tunmise Omotoyinbo and Anisha Sivathas (all in New York); Tax associate Jordan Jentz (Houston); Debt Finance associate Erica Smith (New York); Construction associate Catherine Gu (New York); and international law clerk Shika Hegde. Partner of Counsel Sylvia Chin and legal assistant Sydney Fox (both in New York) also assisted the deal team.
