The EPFL AI Center and the Swiss AI Initiative have launched a Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme to give outstanding and highly motivated young postdoctoral researchers the chance to collaborate with EPFL Faculty members and to conduct research to further the capabilities and applications of AI techniques in a variety of scientific domains. The 3 rd call is now open with a submission deadline of 9 November 2026 17:00 (CET).

Fellows will work with several laboratories at EPFL and will be granted ample freedom to develop their own research agenda. This will include contributing to and participating in various community activities and strategic initiatives associated with the EPFL AI Center.

Key goals of this Fellowship are to:

Promote ethical AI development ensuring fellows critically evaluate issues such as bias, privacy, and fairness in AI research;

Prepare for the next generation of leaders in AI;

Spark interdisciplinary collaboration between the EPFL AI Center’s community.

The 3rd call for proposals is now open and the deadline for the submission of the applications is 9 November 2026 17:00 (CET).

Applications are encouraged from researchers at the postdoctoral level.

Applicants must have obtained a PhD diploma in computer science, physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or another field relevant to artificial intelligence, no more than two years before the submission deadline.

Doctoral students in their last year can also apply, but they will need to have completed their PhD degree by the time they start their fellowship project.

This call is open to applicants of all nationalities. No age restrictions apply.

The fellowship is granted for a maximum period of two years, and it covers a contribution to the salary of approx. 50% per year (EPFL salary scales apply). The remaining part of the salary is covered by the EPFL host laboratories. A maximum amount of CHF 5’000 per fellowship year can be granted for research costs, open research data costs, open access publication costs, travels and conferences.

The support of the host Professor(s) needs to be secured before submitting the application and this commitment only applies if the fellowship is granted.
