The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 takes place in Berlin, Germany, from 4-13 September .
The tournament returns to a 16-team field for the first time since 2018, after 12 teams competed at the 2022 edition in Sydney. A total of 36 games will be played across the Berlin Arena and Max-Schmeling-Halle in the German capital.
The world champions will also secure direct qualification for the women’s basketball tournament at the Olympic Games LA28 . The USA already have a place as Olympic hosts.

FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 - Format
The 16 teams are divided into four groups of four, with each nation facing the other 3 teams in its group once.
The winner of each group advances directly to the quarter-finals , while the second- and third-placed teams enter a single-elimination Qualification to the Quarter-Finals round, with crossover matchups between Groups A and B and Groups C and D.
The four winners complete the quarter-final line-up, with the remainder of the tournament – the quarter-finals, semi-finals, third-place game, and final – also played in a single-elimination format.
