The Paris 2024 gold medallist ended two years of speculation with a video narrated by Michael Jordan, a day after she joined the UCLA coaching staff.

And with that Olympic Games Paris 2024 Olympic artistic gymnastics gold medallist Jordan Chiles has officially launched her road to what could be a third Olympic Games at LA28 .

The announcement came Wednesday (2 September) in a video posted on Instagram featuring narration by basketball legend – and Chiles’ namesake – Michael Jordan.

“Why again? Because the dream is still there. Why continue? Because there’s still more to give,” Jordan says in the video. “Why her? Because she’s that girl.”

Chiles is the fourth member of the Paris 2024 U.S. team to commit to an LA28 run, after Hezly Rivera , Jade Carey and Suni Lee , who announced her own bid in July.

Seven-time Olympic champion Simone Biles , who said she is “50-50,” has yet to confirm either way.

The wait is over for Jordan Chiles

Chiles watched last month’s U.S. Championships in Phoenix from the stands, and she was no closer to a decision there than she had been in the spring.

“The wait is still on. I definitely am going on a lot of vacation, so stay tuned for that,” Chiles said then, according to NBC Sports.

“I think right now my mind is just focusing on me, personally, mentally. The wait is still on.”

The comeback arrives a day after Chiles took a job on the other side of the podium.

Chiles will join the UCLA coaching staff as a student coach for the 2027 season, the school announced on Tuesday (1 September), five months after she ended her collegiate career with a national title on the floor exercise.

“Being in Pauley as a gymnast was chapter one,” Chiles said in the announcement video posted on Instagram. “Now, I get to start a new chapter as coach Jo.”

“Jordan has made an incredible impact on our program over the years,” said UCLA head coach Janelle McDonald. “I’m excited to watch her continue that influence in a new capacity as she steps into this next chapter with student coaching. Her energy, passion, leadership and gymnastics experience will make a unique and positive impact on our team this coming year!”

Chiles finished her collegiate career as a 23-time All-American, a seven-time conference champion and a 19-time perfect 10 scorer.

In her senior season, she scored eight perfect 10s including six alone on the floor exercise, and Chiles was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year.

Her final competition as a Bruin was April’s NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Chiles captured the floor exercise national title – the second of her career there.

Chiles has not competed at the elite level since Paris 2024, where she won team gold three years after taking team silver at Tokyo 2020 .
