Parma win Italian Baseball ‘Serie A’ on 50th anniversary of first league title

Parma defeated San Marino in the best-of-seven Italian Baseball Series, 4-1, and won its 12th Italian Serie A pennant ( Scudetto ), the second in three years.

Parma, who will feature in the Baseball Champions League Europe Final Four 2026 later this month, dominated the rubber match. Claudio Scotti earned the win with six solid innings, allowing only four hits and one walk. Matteo Bocchi and Juan Carlos Intante took care of the final nine outs. The offence supported them with 13 hits, including a home run by former Major League Baseball (MLB) player Robel Garcia. It was Garcia’s third home run in five games of the final series. He also had eight RBIs and earned MVP honours.

With the series tied at one, Parma’s comeback win in game three proved to be the series changer.

San Marino took a 5-4 lead into the eighth. Pinch hitter Riccardo Flisi reached on a leadoff double off reliever Wener Leal. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by centre fielder Tommaso Battioni. Robel Garcia won the game in the top of the ninth with a two-run homer.

The 12th Scudetto came on the 50th anniversary of the franchise’s first league title. Parma (furniture brand Germal was the main sponsor), managed by Giulio Montanini, completed an unsurpassed 51-3 campaign in the 1976 season.

On September 26 and 27 in Brno (Czechia), Parma will compete in the Baseball Champions League Europe Final Four and face the hosts, Draci, Curaçao Neptunus Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Tenerife Marlins (Spain)
