Baseball5 confirmed for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is proud to announce that Baseball5 has been officially included in the sports programme for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The confirmation from the International World Games Association represents another major milestone in the rapid international growth of the five-on-five urban discipline and will see Baseball5 make its debut at one of the world’s leading multi-sport events.
The World Games 2029 will take place from 19 to 29 July, bringing together approximately 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries. Its confirmed programme features 36 sports and 62 disciplines.
Played by mixed-gender teams on a compact field, Baseball5 requires only a rubber ball and can be staged indoors or outdoors across a wide variety of urban and traditional sporting settings. The games, which are energetic and easy for spectators to follow, are on average played in less than an hour, making the discipline particularly well suited to multi-sport events.
Its inclusion in The World Games further strengthens Baseball5’s growing presence within the international multi-sport movement. The discipline will make its Youth Olympic debut at Dakar 2026 , while it has also recently featured at continental multi-sport events, including the Mediterranean Games Taranto 2026 and South East Asian Games .
Previously, women’s softball had appeared five times and men’s softball twice in The World Games, including last year in Chengdu, China while men’s baseball had also previously featured in the inaugural edition - alongside men’s and women’s softball - at Santa, Clara, USA in 1981.
