SOFIA CHANIOTI leads a youth-led movement across Mykonos, Kimolos, Kefalonia; Winner of #MakeEUBlue Award 2026 (Youth)

Intergenerational Island Stewardship: Bridging Youth, Elders, and Heritage for Climate & Ocean Action

What started in 2024 as a summer workshop supported by the Cyclades Preservation Fund has evolved into a multi-island, youth-led movement across Mykonos, Kimolos, and Kefalonia. Recognized by UNEP ( Women’s Wave ), supported by EU Technical Assistance ( Mykonos Clean Shores ), and winner of the #MakeEUBlue Award 2026 (Youth Category) for our Blue Skills Lab , our enterprise SOFIA CHANIOTI proves that island communities can lead Europe's green transition.

Our Tangible Impact in Numbers:

7,000+ educators reached through our open-access Environmental Education Guides (Canva).

1,500+ island students trained through hands-on ocean literacy, upcycling workshops, and trail stewardship.

300+ educators directly trained across Europe via our course with Europass Teacher Academy.

Intergenerational Heritage: High school students filming micro-video stories with elderly residents ( Mykonian Beauty blog) to document landscape changes and traditional island sustainability versus modern tourism pressures.

Circular Economy & Charity: Upcycling marine waste into new goods and hosting community bazaars to support local orphanages, partnering with local Women’s Associations and Ionian Environment Foundation.

Local Anchoring: 100% voluntary community continuation in Ano Mera, Mykonos in 2026, backed by prior municipal funding (Municipality of Mykonos).

By combining ocean literacy, teacher empowerment, circular economy, and intergenerational solidarity, our initiative models an inclusive and scalable green future for European islands.
